Star Supercars rookie locked in at PremiAir for 2027

Standout Supercars rookie Jayden Ojeda is already locked in for a second season at PremiAir Racing.

Team principal Roland Dane has confirmed the 26-year-old joined the team this season on a two-year deal.

Ojeda clocked career-best qualifying (third) and race (sixth) results last time out in Tasmania and sits as the top rookie in 14th in the standings.

“Somebody as good as Jayden, for sure other people should be looking at him,” Dane said at Hidden Valley.

“But ultimately I hope he’ll stay with PremiAir. He’s certainly committed for next year.”

Dane also revealed he put Ojeda’s name forward when Triple Eight needed to replace Shane van Gisbergen for 2024.

“I’m surprised he wasn’t in Supercars already,” said Dane.

“I put it forward when I was on the board at Triple Eight as a replacement for Shane.

“Quite rightly, Will Brown was available in the end and got the drive.

“But to me he should have been in Supercars already, I was surprised he wasn’t given his track record.

“Hopefully he continues on the trajectory he is and proves me right.”

There is less certainly around teammate Declan Fraser, who sits 18th in points after five rounds.

Fraser has largely been overshadowed by Ojeda despite having a year of Supercars experience – the 2023 season with Tickford Racing – under his belt.

The 25-year-old is understood to be on a ‘one plus one’ contract, with the team holding an option on his services for 2027.

Dane opted for a youthful line-up this season as he aims to build the foundations for future PremiAir success.

He’s remained somewhat under the radar amid debate over GM needing to poach a ‘star driver’ and the bunfight over Camaro parity changes.

Praising the new-for-2026 arrangement under which GM squads share setup information, Dane believes it’s up to the teams to “do a better job”.

“This is why I haven’t got hung up about parity and everything, et cetera,” Dane said.

“Undoubtedly, we would all aspire to be top teams, like the drivers would all aspire to be top drivers, but they’re not in the GM camp at the moment.

“We’ve got to do a better job.

“The best team on our side of the fence, if you like, is Team 18. Anton [De Pasquale] is the best driver and he’s a great benchmark for us to have.

“But we’re not Triple Eight, right? Yet. We’re not Groves yet, you know? Those teams are, for good reason, at the top end of pit lane.”

Dane caused a stir when he took the reins at Peter Xiberras’ fledgling PremiAir this season, just a year after cutting final ties with the Triple Eight team he founded.
